In Memory

Lawrence Perletz

Lawrence (Larry) Perletz, 76, passed away suddenly September 19, 2023. Son of late Dr. Percy and Sylvia Perletz. Loving husband of Carol Perletz for 49 years. Larry was born and raised outside of Buffalo NY. He went to MIT for a degree in Physics then onto the University of Illinois for a masters in Physics, where he became interested in biomedical engineering through a research project and then pursued a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University. He put his new knowledge into pacemaker design and other medical areas, moving to Reading MA in 1977. He eventually settled into writing embedded software in many different products such as atomic clocks. Even though Larry was quiet, he had a dry sense of humor and was clever at contributing to all kinds of topics. He was fully engaged in his two hobbies, experimenting with his wood smoker and surround sound speaker system. He loved to research in order to resolve problems. Larry is survived by his children, David Perletz and his wife Amanda of St. Peters MO, Jennie Perletz-Fort and her husband Thayne of Denver, as well as grandchildren Nathan Perletz and Tyson Fort. Brother of the late Robert Perletz, uncle of Sera Smith, Leah Perletz Phillips, and Lissa Perletz. Also survived by an aunt, uncle, and many cousins.

Rest in peace, Larry. Physics is a wonderful field of study and work, and it sounds like science and technology gave you great joy. Condolences to your family.

I sat behind Larry in home room and many classes when alphabetical seating was the norm.  He was a kind and funny guy who always made a school day better.  May he rest in peace along with Louie Opler who sat in line before us.  Both of  these guys were exceptional, and I was lucky to start each day with them.

Larry was a brilliant young man whom I had the great honor of calling a friend. He was always available if I had a science question and he always let me use the Encyclopedia Britannica at his home.  Lew Opler was my best friend at the time and with those two on my side I knew I was able to climb any hurdle. My deepest condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends.
