Annis Savage (Teacher)

Memorial services for Annis Savage, 82, a retired Kenmore West High School teacher who was active in her church and restored an old farm property in the Town of Angelica, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, 1 Symphony Circle. Burial will be in Adams Center Cemetery.  Mrs. Savage died Sunday (Jan. 16, 1994) in Beechwood Nursing Home, Getzville.  Born in Philadelphia, N.Y., the former Annis Kellogg grew up in the Adirondacks, where she attended local schools. In 1932, she graduated from Albany State Teachers College.  A business teacher, she began her career in Waverly, then moved to Adams Center, where she taught for several years before joining the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda school district. She taught there for about 20 years before retiring.
After her retirement, Mrs. Savage sold real estate for Nye and Meyer Real Estate for about eight years.  She and her late husband, Earl "Pete" Savage, purchased the old Mill Run Farm in Angelica and restored the run-down and neglected property to a parklike setting.
A member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, Mrs. Savage was one of the first women to serve as a church elder and subsequently became a trustee of the Presbytery of Western New York. She organized the church children's camping program and supervised its toy-lending library.
Mrs. Savage was an avid traveler and a member of the College Club of Buffalo and Toby's Gardeners.
Survivors include two sons, William of Hamburg and Timothy of New York City; a daughter, Elizabeth Kamke; and five grandchildren.
