Irene Wojtowicz (Teacher)

Irene M. Wojtowicz , a retired Kenmore West Senior High School teacher, died Monday (Jan. 17, 1994) in Northgate Manor Health Care Facility, North Tonawanda.  Ms. Wojtowicz , 84, a longtime resident of Kenmore, taught home economics in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda school system for 27 years. She earned her bachelor's degree at Buffalo State College and completed her master's degree in foods and nutrition at New York University in the 1950s.  She was dietitian on the staff of New York University and accompanied students to the Virgin Islands and Mexico. She later wrote on the cuisine and customs of countries she visited for the Journal of Educational Sociology.  Before teaching at Kenmore West, Ms. Wojtowicz worked as a home-service representative for Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for 11 years. She gave food demonstrations in Polish and English and did testing and research on recipes and foods. She also taught nutrition for the American Red Cross.  Survivors include a sister, Jeanette O. of Kenmore.  Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
