Virginia Duffy (Teacher & Cheerleading Coach)


A service for Virginia Clark Duffy Klaiber, 84, of Getzville, a retired social studies teacher who served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Kenmore United Methodist Church, 32 Landers Road.  Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria.  Mrs. Klaiber, who was born in Wilson, died Wednesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after suffering a heart attack in her home.  She was a graduate of Kenmore High School and graduated from the Millard Fillmore School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1943.  Mrs. Klaiber served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 at a Navy hospital in Oakland, Calif., and returned to active duty from 1950 to 1953, serving at the 3rd Naval District Medical Office in New York City.  She earned a bachelor of science degree in 1956 and a master's degree in 1962, both from the University of Buffalo. She was a social studies teacher at Kenmore West High School from 1956 until her retirement in 1977.
 Mrs. Klaiber had been a member of Kenmore United Methodist Church since 1950 and belonged to the League of Women Voters, Kenmore-Tonawanda Historical Society, Wilson Historical Society and New York State Retired Teachers Association.  She enjoyed gardening and playing bridge and golf. She was a Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan and season ticket holder for many years.  Her first husband, Edward J. Duffy, died in 1970. Her second husband, Howard F. Klaiber, died in 2003.  Survivors include two stepsons, Joseph Duffy of Kenmore and William Duffy of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
