Robert Schultz (Teacher)

Robert H. Schultz, a retired Kenmore West High School math teacher and World War II veteran, died Jan. 4, 2003, in St. Francis Home, Williamsville. He was 80.  The Buffalo native and 52-year Kenmore resident graduated from Lafayette High School and Buffalo State Teachers College, where he majored in mathematics and minored in English.  He served in the Army's Medical Transportation Corps with the 12th Armored Division in World War II, driving ambulances and following Gen. George S. Patton's Army through France and Germany.  After his discharge, he returned to Buffalo to study at the University of Buffalo, receiving a master of education degree in mathematics in 1947.  He taught secondary math for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He also taught a course in modern math for parents and was on the faculty at Erie County Technical Institute.  He was a former committee member of the New York State Board of Regents.  For many years, he bowled with the Kenmore teachers and volunteered with the Sheridan Drive Lions Club.
Schultz also was a sponsor for American Field Service exchange students.  He was an amateur photographer and videotaped football games for Kenmore West.  His passion was fishing. He also enjoyed travel, especially to Florida and Europe.  His other interests included card games, music, crossword puzzles and mystery stories.  His wife of 33 years, the former Isabel Lee, died in 1979.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, the former Marjorie Phillips Stewart of Kenmore; a daughter, Barbara Spencer of Winnetka, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Ann Hack of Hopewell Junction; a sister, Eleanor Imhof of Dickinson, Texas; and three grandchildren.  A memorial service was held Thursday in Trinity United Methodist Church, Amherst.
