Constance Schaffer (Teacher)


Constance Anne Schaffer, 78, a retired high school history teacher, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 1998) at Weinberg Campus, Getzville, after a lengthy illness.  Born Constance Anne Halik in Brooklyn, she attended West High School in Rochester and was a graduate of Skidmore College. She earned her master's degree from the University of Rochester.
She began her 35-year teaching career in New Jersey, then came to the Buffalo area. She taught at Cleveland Hill High School, Buffalo Seminary and for many years at Kenmore West High School.  She was a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Society Women's Group, Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and the New York State Teachers Association. She was a dedicated supporter of arts and music.
She and Merton A. Schaffer were married in 1958. They traveled extensively and visited Africa, Japan and Europe. He died in 1993.
Surviving are two brothers, Frederick Halik of Fairport and Wilbur Halik of Webster, NY.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Holmes Chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Ave. Entombment will be in Rosewood Atrium of Forest Lawn.
