Douglas Wert

WERT, DOUGLAS ALAN, 62, died peacefully at home among family on August 29, 2009. Doug was born in North Tonawanda, New York and was raised in the northern suburbs of Buffalo. He graduated from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy on a nuclear submarine from 1969 to 1973 as a Reactor Operator. He then became a Register Professional Engineer in Massachusetts in 1980. Doug was co-founder and CEO of Spinnaker Energy Inc. a renewable energy developer. He was previously employed as an Executive Vice President of General Power. Before that, he was the Vice President of Strategic and International Business Development for Ahlstrom Development Corporation. He had over 25 years experience in the design, construction, financing and operation of independent power projects. He was an active member of his church, the North Coast Presbyterian Church in Encinitas, California. In addition, he was a prime supporter of the Mexican orphanage, Kids Kingdom Orphanage. There he helped to raise funds and also took on a hands-on role working with the kids and repairing and maintaining their home. He organized a Tio/Tia program that linked individual children with a benefactor in the church. He is survived by his wife Beth, his son and daughter, Airex and Nicole, and his two brothers Randy Wert and Kim Wert and their families. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at September 20, 2009, at the North Coast Presbyterian Church. Memorial gifts, in Doug's memory, may be made to the Kids Kingdom Orphanage in care of the North Coast Christian Ministries.
